The Orfeas String Quartet was formed in 2004 by four postgraduate students at Trinity College of Music. In its initial stages the quartet worked intensively with Michael Bochmann & George Hadjinikos developing its own sound and ethos. Always aspiring for beauty of line and unity, their sound is unique and has been highly praised. They have given numerous acclaimed performances of lesser know and new repertoire.
Performance highlights include:
.... Royal Festival Hall as part of the RFH Revival celebrating the newly redesigned acoustic
.... St Martin in the Fields as part of the Re Opening Celebrations
.... Dover House, The Scottish Office Celebration of the 300th Anniversary of the Union of Scotland and England.
.... HRH Prince Philip at the Queen's House in Greenwich
.... Canning House Recital for the Latin American Cultural Institute
The Quartet also performs recitals for Music Clubs and Festivals through out Great Britain.
They have a wide and interesting repertoire ranging from Purcell's Chaconne to quartets by Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven, Schubert, Dvorak, Borodin, Turina, Piazzolla & Shostakovich to works written especially for them.
In February 2008 they gave the World Premier of Denise Mangiardi's Quartet 'The Heart has No Measure' in Highgate to accompany the first exhibition of Artist Joshua Whiskey's Painting, (the Quartet's inspiration). The Orfeas Quartet also performed on Wayne Gidden's Debut Album.
They will premier Aziza Sadikova's New Amplified String Quartet written for them in March 2011.
