Riamba

Riamba came together in 1998, a time in which a documentary film about the Buena Vista Social Club touched the hearts of millions, and the popularity of Salsa music rose. The group was founded upon the Son style of Cuban music - the roots of Salsa;  and is fronted by their superb female vocalist and backed by a strong rhythm section which includes: piano, brass, bass and typical Latin American percussion.

Riamba's musicians, who are from the UK, Europe and Latin America, have had an eclectic musical training with professional experiences to match, encompassing: classical, jazz, pop and Latin American music.  As individuals this has led them to perform on tours in the UK and around the world with artists such as:  Björk, Ricky Martin, The Ghanaian Dance Ensemble, Taj Mahal, Joanna MacGregor and at venues which include:  The 606 Club, The Royal Festival Hall, Blue Note Club (New York), and The National Theatre (Ghana).

Delighting audiences around the country with their broad spectrum of Latin music, Riamba has performed at national festivals and at venues such as London's National Theatre and St Martin-in-the-Fields.  Concerts that transport the audience from the bordellos and passion of Buenos Aires to the hot energetic rhythms of Cuba. Excursions into the North American jazz scene are made with Latin influenced works by artists such as Sonny Rollins and Chick Corea.

Educational Events
Riamba will take you on a tour of South America and the Caribbean, to explore the different styles of music and rhythms that over decades have set the world's feet a tapping ... a concert that is sure to entertain and inform.
